I knew about this sequel long after reading Backwards to Oregon, which I loved. I just never got around to reading it, then I got the chance to read and review Jae’s other historical romance Shaken to the Core, and I just had to read this. In Shaken to the Core, Jae introduces a character connected to Backwards to Oregon, so that’s what brought me to Hidden Truths. I have read and reviewed many of Jae’s books and my thoughts about this one is no different. The writing was awesome, the book had length to it, so it was worth my money.I loved this because we got to see what happened through the years with Luke and Nora and the girls. Bringing Tess in was a delightful surprise, she’s a great character. Many things about the past were reveled, although difficult, it had to be done. I don’t want to give too much away, but this was a good sequel, a book I’ll reread again and again, just as I did with Backwards to Oregon.

I loved this book as much as I loved Backwards to Oregon. I’m typically not much of a historical fiction reader, but a friend told me these were her favorite Jae books so I gave them a try. Obviously, I’m very happy I did. And while I’ve said this before, I think it bears repeating. I’m grateful for strong women in the past who had the courage to pave the way for us today.

This author is very good with descriptions. After reading this book I felt like I would know how to run a horse ranch in the West.That a person who was born and still lives in Germany - could cross cultures and write a book such as this one, is truly amazing. The author has clearly done her research.In addition, the characters are well defined, and as three-dimensional as real-life people.This is a long book, so therefore, a leisurely read.In addition to meeting up again with characters from Backwards to Oregon, we get to know Luke and Nora's two daughters, Nattie and Amy. I would like to add although a sequel to Backwards to Oregon, this book can also be read as a stand alone story.Things are going along well for Amy, despite having some feelings towards other women, that she doesn't know quite how to deal with. Amy loves the ranch and loves horses and has a good relationship with her parents.Rika thinks maybe life could be good for her, or at least better than it has been slaving in the mills, when she goes West as a mail order bride.Instead, everything gets turned upside down; Nora, Luke, Amy and Rika all have to reconsider their decisions - when Amy and Rika develop feelings for each other. Long buried secrets force the characters to change their way of thinking.I read almost primarily lesbian historical fiction and summing up my take on this one is easy: A beautiful romance - highly recommended, in a very authentic Western setting.

I started reading this right after I finished Backwards to Oregon. I love seeing the Hamilton's after they're journey out west. The only downside was it left me wanting more. I know the author has written a few short stories about the Hamilton's and their friends and I will definitely read those as well.

Hidden Truths is the sequel to Backwards To Oregon and is set 17 years in the future. The primary focus is really on Amy with Luke and Nora play key roles but still a backdrop to the character development of the daughter.I enjoyed this story and the continued development of the characters but I was not as invested as I was in the first story. I think this was in part because I understood what was happening with Amy from the onset and was more easily able to anticipate what would happen next. Although, there were a few moments when I expected there to be larger ramifications for people's actions but the fact that I was wrong didn't detract from the story.I will say this is not a story you should read out of sequence. It's not so much that you can't but I think it makes the characters more interesting to know their history. If you like the characters of Luke and Nora I would definitely recommend reading this one as well.

This book earned 5 starts because it was engaging, well developed characters, full of crazy tear jerking moments. It had me laughing, stressing , and so waiting to know how it ends.Backwards to Oregon and Hidden Truth could so be a TV special or movie.There that good.JAE has many amazing books I Look forward to them all.Btw, check out her short stories and crossover book for this book.

I put off buying this book because I didn't want to spend $9.99 on the kindle version.The book is 572 pages long,well worth it and a total joy to read.Luke , Nora,Amy and Nattie are a family living in Oregon in the late 1860's.Luke is a woman who has lived as a manfor most of her life in order to "fit in".She and her wife,Nora,have been together for 17 years and have raised 2 daughters .One day Rika,a mail order bride, arrives at their ranch and everyone's life starts to change.Hang on to your hats,it's a surprise from start to finish.Spend your dollars on this one,you won't be disappointed.Thanks Jae. I have read this series 13 times now and every time I read it I can feel myself being taken along on the journey of the Hamilton's as I was right there with them. I am desperately praying that you will continue their story as it is a wonderful story to read. And I am highly recommending this series to everybody. This is one of my favorite stories I love the old West days in books.
